Curation of M.Ed. Course Projects

MASTER OF EDUCATION CORE COURSES

"The Educational Technology (Ed Tech) field brings together education and technology to examine the multiple ways technology can create more efficient, effective, sustainable models of education.  Technology in education includes everything from online learning to virtual reality and all future possibilities that have yet to arrive on the market."
(Leer & Ivanov, 2013).

EDU 520 - Digitally Mediated Teaching & Learning

This course is designed with a collaborative group project to create a Wiki site as part of our learning activity. Missing two team members from an intended four-person group, our two-person team doubled our working role assignments over four weeks. We selected focus topics and constructed pages of populated content, multimedia, graphics, custom-made videos, and cited references. This project required and demonstrated the value of asynchronous communication, individual research, time- and self-management, planning and execution skills, and refinement through classroom feedback. In educational settings, group projects allow students to work on a solution to attaining the goal and completing the task, which they must propose and pursue together. I plan to encourage collaboration projects in my future classrooms because I realize the value of these skills and qualities in the professional and social world and how they can positively affect student potential on a personal level.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CONCENTRATION

EDU 624 - E-Learning Design for Diverse Learning Environments

For this course, I designed and created an asynchronous e-Learning course in Storyline called 'PowerPoint Basics' aimed at middle school students. Learners are introduced to an avatar (15-year-old Alex) who wants to begin a lawn-mowing business and must learn PowerPoint to pitch the idea to his neighbors. Students are invited to journey along with Alex as he learns PowerPoint so they can learn it too.

EDU 625 - Integrating Technology into Learning

This course focused on exploring ways technology can be used in learning environments. Each week, I reviewed, analyzed, and critically evaluated current research on the effective use of technology in education. The final project was to create a series of four instructional learning activities focused on a single topic that is entirely technology-based while supporting Bloom's Digital Taxonomy.

MASTER OF EDUCATION CAPSTONE

EDU 690 - Comprehensive Capstone in Education

The purpose of this course is to create a proposal for an action research project that identifies and attempts to solve a problem in my current or future educational context.  The problem statement of my literature review seeks to answer: "Are printed learning materials more effective for comprehension and memory recall than digital resources?"
